Social media is filled with unique ideas across numerous platforms.
Facebook – a yearbook of sorts to share photos, videos, long and short form text etc.
Twitter – the short form mostly text based platform with photos
Instagram – photo heavy with captions, stories and video friendly
Snapchat – photo and video heavy with the first iteration of “stories.”
YouTube – Video heavy
When Instagram saw Snapchat’s success with the story idea (this is where people post short videos and/or images in succession to tell a story), they jumped on the bandwagon. They built the story feature right into the instagram feature so as to not lose the portion of the audience that wanted such a feature.
Now fast forward to today. Facebook is introducing a very video centric section into their platform model as they see the power video brings. With the ease of creating videos in today’s smartphone heavy world, it’s a no-brainer.
So what happens next? Twitter sees an opportunity. They are now planning to offer a “stories” type feature in their platform which has been losing some ground to the video friendly platforms of Instagram and Snapchat.
In the next few months Twitter will allow users the ease to incorporate video into what until now, has been a text heavy app.
It will definitely be interesting to watch if Twitter’s foray into the video story space is well timed or a little past the prime momentum.
